From Monday 8th February, a renewed cold spell from the East is likely.

Discuss the prospects here. Smile

A cold week coming up, snow i think will be fairly limited. Especially during the first half the week. The further South and East you are the better. Some wintry showers can be expected in Eastern Scotland and North East England for a time though. Places further south and east will see more frequent, but mainly light showers. There is likely to be more organized bands of snow showers at times. Monday looks interesting for the South East and East Anglia while further North during Tuesday. Towards the end of the week showers will become more widespread across the UK. The southern half the UK faring better.

Yep, my main interest is was the high does afterwords. I'm fairly confident the high should migrate towards Greenland, perhaps setting up a western based -NAO in time. A Northely, North Easterly does seem quite possible. However the risk from an attack form the south west will become increasingly possible. That's how i see it Smile

If everything is right then an attack from the SW can be great here but doesnt last long. Im sure there will be plenty of surprises. It looks like the cold will last through much of the half term week too. Very Happy

It sure does, the stratospheric warming event will assist the -AO. Hopefully the blocking can remain in a place to benefit us!

NAO becoming to west best based is the problem. Blocking should last well into March given the current events in the stratosphere. A -AO being very likely. I'm not knowledgeable enough to say were this blocking will set up. There is however a wide window with the potential of more cold and wintry weather as we head into March. Rest of February looking cool with snow at times, mainly to high ground. Could turn milder though. Depends on where the low decides to set up.

ECM is a bit of a turn around and would give a snow risk to many more i think next week. A one off or a new trend developing?

The next few runs may show this!

Nothing really to add to my post above. Remaining on the cold side for the rest of the week. Snow will be around however will be mainly confined to higher ground in the South. Further North (North of the Mids) and there is a risk of more low land snow. Everywhere is at risk of seeing a wintry mix at times. I think there could be one or two good snow events in the North of the UK over the coming days, one to keep an eye on. A excellent outlook for the Scottish Ski resorts! Overall a cold week with frost and fog at times. Snow is likely in the North with a wintry mix further south. Temps remaining below the average for the time of year.

A lot of uncertainty about possible snowfall here at times tomorrow as that front in the South/SE pulls back NW wards. It will weaken but how far it gets remains a question.

The GFS 18Z is so snowy, us Midlanders are fainting. Lol.

This will downgrade so much but it suggests snow potential virtually every day next week however it needs so much watching. Smile

A band of rain, sleet and snow is expected to push westwards across Southern England, the Midlands, Wales and Southern parts of Northern England. Snow is expected to fall across Wales, the Midlands, and Southern parts of Northern England. Accumulations of 2cm to 3cm can be expected across the above areas. Up to 10cm is possible across the hills of Wales and the North (Pennines). Southern England is expected to see rain while the Southern Midlands might see a period of sleet. Ice may be problem overnight into Monday.

This was what i issued earlier

Changes: Accumulations of around 4cm to 6cm across North Midlands and Parts of Northern England and Wales. Up to 5cm further south depending on whether it starts as rain/sleet. High ground could see accumulations nearer 10cm

Snow will start to clear however should continue across North Yorkshire.

Tomorrow sees another risk of snow. Another band of precipitation shall push north. It will be rain/sleet for a fair few however the northern edge might see a period of light snow. A couple of cm's. I'm currently thinking around Nottingham as the northern limit for the band (going by the NMM model). Looks marginal with 850hpa temps around -3, dew points around 1c, and precipitation not very heavy. It also comes during the day. The 0c isotherm is around 200m which isn't to bad. I thinking if precipitation is heavy enough snow will fall to higher ground across the midlands and Wales. It may be sleety though. I'm pretty sure lower ground will have a sleety mix at best after some front edge snow. Will update when the 12z's come out. Should have clearer picture Smile

Looks like things could turn wintry for a time next week with some back edge snow from the storm in the South on Sunday. Some wintry showers next week perhaps though nothing notably cold.

Still looks chilly next week with a couple of snow opportunities here and there but nothing significant imo. Scotland has had a huge dumping the last few days!
